ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three student-athletes from RIT were honored with Liberty League weekly accolades announced by the conference, Monday (May 11).
Graduate student
Ryan Merkov was named the Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Senior
Alex Zborowski was named the Men's Lacrosse Defensive Performer of the Week and sophomore
Ryan Sanders was the Offensive Performer of the Week.
Merkov earned a pair of wins to help RIT earn the Liberty League Tournament title. The reliever worked 5.1 innings in a 10-1 win over Hobart on Friday before working another 5.0 innings in the deciding Game 7 against Hobart on Saturday. Over the two games, Merkov held the Statesmen scoreless while allowing just four hits to go along with six strike outs and one walk, earning the tournament's Most Outstanding Performer honors.
Zborowski recorded a 2-0 record, a 7.96 goals-against average and a .593 save percentage to lead RIT to a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament. Zborowski made six saves in 52 minutes of action in RIT's 19-6 win over Elmhurst in Saturday's Second Round game. The senior goalie made 13 saves in the Tiger's 12-11 OT win at Salisbury in Sunday's Third Round game.
Sanders recorded 13 points on 11 goals and two assists to lead RIT to a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament. Sanders scored five goals and added an assist in RIT's 19-6 win over Elmhurst in Saturday's second round game. He scored six goals, including the overtime game-winner in the Tigers 12-11 win at Salisbury in Sunday's Third Round contest.
