NAPLES, Fla. – The RIT Softball team opened the 2026 season with a two-game split at the Gene Cusic Classic, Sunday. The Tigers fell, 7-6, to St. Joseph's (Conn.) in the opener before shutting out Cobleskill, 4-0.
ST. JOSEPH'S (CONN.) 7, RIT 6
- Sophomore Kate Carlone finished 4-for-4, including a three-run home run that staked the Tigers to a 6-2 lead in the fifth inning, but the Bluejays put together a five-run sixth inning to earn the comeback win.
- Sophomore Anna Cavotta went 1-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base and scored a run, while first-year Taryn Jones went 1-for-2 with two RBI in her collegiate debut.
- Senior starter Jessica Majot allowed six runs on five hits through five innings, while sophomore Mackenzie Blair took the relief loss, allowing what proved to be the deciding run in the sixth.
RIT 4, COBLESKILL 0
- Sophomore Addison Hill twirled a complete game, four-hit shutout while striking out a career-high 13 batters to earn her first career victory.
- Jones finished 2-for-3, including a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning.
- Sophomore Carlianna Ewing ended 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored.

RIT is scheduled to face Rockford (Ill.) at 9:00 a.m. and Brooklyn College (11:00 a.m.) on Monday (Mar. 9) at the Lee Health Sports Complex in Fort Myers on the second day of action at the Gene Cusic Classic.
