Brimmer signs AHL contract with Abbotsford Canucks

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - RIT senior forward Austin Brimmer signed a professional contract with the Abbotsford Canucks, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the NHL Vancouver Canucks, announced Tuesday.

Brimmer inked a one-year AHL contract through the 2026-27 season and will also will report to Abbotsford for the remainder of the 2026 season, competing on a professional try-out agreement.

"Austin earned this through his dedication and hard work," said RIT first-year Head Coach Matt Thomas, who named Brimmer an alternate captain for the season. "He is a great representative of our program and we wish him the best as he transitions to professional hockey."

Brimmer tied for the team scoring lead with a career-high 25 points on 10 goals and 15 assists this past winter while playing all 36 games.

He was named the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Player of the Week (Jan. 27) after logging back-to-back multi-point games versus Niagara, including a goal and an assist in the 4-2 victory (Jan. 23).

Brimmer also notched back-to-back one goal/one assist nights in the 4-1 win at Colgate (Nov. 1) and the 4-1 win over Mercyhurst (Nov. 7) during the Tigers' nine-game winning streak.

He tied a career-high with two goals – including the game-tying goal with 31.6 left in regulation – in the Tigers' 5-4 overtime setback at Holy Cross last Saturday (Mar. 7) in the AHA Quarterfinals.

Transferring to RIT after three seasons at Long Island University, he finished his college career with 80 points (33G/47A) over 133 total games.
