ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RIT Men's Hockey team fell to visiting Canisius, 4-1, in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA), Saturday.
Canisius scored three goals in the first and added another in the second for a 4-0 lead. Tiger first-year
Evan Konyen tallied a power play goal 2:10 into the third to breakup the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Oliver Tarr finished a feed from Hillian Kiekcer-Olson after he intercepted a clearing attempt in the Tiger zone 39 seconds into the game.
Canisius took a 2-0 lead at 4:17 following a Tiger tripping penalty. Rhys Chiddenton cleaned up a puck on the goal line behind RIT sophomore goaltender
Jakub Krbecek off a shot by Alton McDermott.
Hunter Price scored on a short rebound following a shot from the point by FJ Buteau with 2:20 remaining in the first.
Buteau finished an odd-man rush during a power play at 8:10 of the second for the four-goal lead.
RIT got on the board with a power play goal of their own 2:10 into the third following a Canisius hooking penalty. Senior forward
Austin Brimmer flipped a puck on net from inside the right faceoff circle that deflected off Chase Clark's pads to Konyen in front of the right post for a short finish.
COACH THOMAS SAID
"I told the guys, I don't think we've had a stinker this year where we just didn't show up in any area. This is a great opportunity for us to look at the mirror and admit it and then fix it.
"You learn more from these games than you do from any win. That's the reality. You figure out what your team is about and if you're a team that's got a chance to be one that's in the conversation at the end. But we certainly have to look inward and figure out how each of us individually can be better.
"I honestly like where we're at. We're a good team, but we weren't ourselves tonight. When we play how we're capable of playing, we're good. And we just showed that if we don't play that way, we're pretty average. So, I'm not overly concerned, but I will be if we don't bring a way better effort next weekend."
