Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey takes down Clarkson, 3-2

POTSDAM, N.Y. – RIT senior forward Tanner Andrew scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory at Clarkson, Sunday. First-year goaltender Jakub Krbecek collected 32 saves to preserve the victory in his first collegiate start.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a scoreless first period, RIT opened the scoring 56 seconds into the second. Sophomore forward Christian Catalano spun off the left boards for an open lane to the Clarkson goal before chipping a shot inside the left post over goaltender Marcus Bannman's stick.
  • The Tigers took a 2-0 lead five minutes later following a faceoff win in RIT zone. Sophomore forward Simon Isabelle skated the puck down the right wing boards and around the Clarkson goal to put a wrap-around attempt on the left post. A loose puck deflected out to graduate student forward Nick Cafarelli at the right faceoff dot, who scored inside the right post on a slap shot that redirected off another player.
  • Clarkson got on the board with a power-play goal at 15:33 of the second following a Krbecek tripping penalty. The Golden Knights cycled the puck around the point until Ryan Bottrill scored on a wristshot from the point through a screen.
  • Andrew pushed RIT to a 3-1 lead with 4:50 left in regulation. Clarkson attempted to move a puck out of its zone, but Andrew intercepted a pass just inside the red line and skated back to score on a shot from the right faceoff dot, far post.
  • Clarkson went on the power play with 4:01 left in regulation and later pulled Bannman for 53 seconds of a 5-on-3 advantage. The Tigers fought off the two-man advantage, but the Golden Knights were later able to finish a scramble in front of Krbecek with 2.3 second left in regulation.

  • Clarkson finished the game with a 35-18 shot advantage.
  • RIT killed five of six penalties while finishing 0-for-2 with the extra man.

  • RIT finished with 17 blocked shots, including a career-high five by junior defenseman Gustav Blom
