ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT fifth-year defenseman
Gianfranco Cassaro was credited with what proved to be his fifth game-winning goal of the season in the No. 19/19 Tigers' 4-1 Atlantic Hockey victory over visiting Robert Morris, Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RIT out-shot the Colonials, 25-2, in the first period, but didn't get one past RMU goaltender Chad Veltri until the opening minutes of the second. First-year forward Tyler Fukakusa put a puck on goal in front of a crowded crease that eventually deflected into the net off graduate student forward Caleb Moretz' stick with 16:42 on the clock.
- Cassaro made it a 2-0 game with 5:29 on the clock, taking a pass down the right half boards from graduate student forward Elijah Gonsalves and beating Veltri, glove side, with a wrist shot from inside the faceoff circle.
- RIT took a 3-0 lead early 1:41 into the third after junior forward Carter Wilkie pounced on a Colonial turnover in the Tiger zone and pushed a puck forward to Laskosky in the neutral zone. The pair out-skated two defenders back where Laskosky slid a puck to the left post for Wilkie to jam past Veltri.
- Robert Morris got on the board with 3:26 left in regulation after Logan Ganie scored from the slot under Tiger junior goaltender Tommy Scarfone's pads off a Rylee St. Onge pass.
- Sophomore forward Simon Isabelle closed the scoring with an empty-net goal with 1:40 left in regulation.
GAME NOTES

- Scarfone stopped 15 shots for his ninth win of the season and 39th of his career – tied for fourth in D1-era history with Louis Menard '09. He also tied Jared DeMichiel '10 for fourth with his 65th career appearance.
- Laskosky notched two assists and moved into the team lead with 13 points (5G/8A) in his 100th career appearance.
- Senior defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata notched his eighth assist of the season to tie Laskosky for the team lead.
- The Tigers took a season-high 54 shots on goal, eclipsing the 51 they took in the 2-0 setback to Mercyhurst (Nov. 11). RIT's 25 first-period shots were also a single-period high, four better than the 21 it took in the second period of the Mercyhurst setback.
- Senior defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis blocked two shots and leads RIT with 26 this season.
- RIT only committed two penalties for a season-low four penalty minutes. The Tigers committed two penalties for seven minutes in the 5-2 setback to Sacred Heart (Oct. 21).
