Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

No. 19/19 Men's Hockey rides second-period surge to 6-2 win over Robert Morris

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – RIT senior defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis and sophomore forward Tyler Mahan each notched a career-high three assists, while first-year forward Philippe Jacques scored his first two goals of the season in the No. 19/19 Tigers' 6-2 Atlantic Hockey victory over visiting Robert Morris, Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • RIT took a 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal with 3:43 left in the first period. Mikrogiannakis sent a long outlet pass from behind the Tiger goal line to Mahan at center ice for a two-on-one break with sophomore forward Simon Isabelle. Mahan skated through the left faceoff circle and crossed a pass to Isabelle for a short finish inside the right post behind RMU goaltender Chad Veltri.
  • Robert Morris evened the game with 7:56 left in the second. A blocked shot deflected out to the point where Cade Townend struck a long one-timer that deflected off Cameron Garvey in front of the right post. The puck fell behind Tiger graduate student goaltender Luke Lush where Walter Zacher tipped a shot over the goal line.
  • The Colonials took a 2-1 lead 2:51 later after Townend finished a rush from close range off a feed from Jackson Reineke deep in the right corner.
  • Junior forward Carter Wilkie started a 3-0 Tiger run in the closing minutes of the period. Sophomore defenseman Xavier Lapointe sent a pass down the left boards to senior forward Cody Laskosky, who pushed a pass forward to Wilkie inside the Robert Morris blue line. Wilkie tipped a puck around a Colonial defender and scored past Veltri's glove on a shot in the middle of the slot with 4:10 on the clock.
  • One minute and nine seconds later, first-year forward Matthew Wilde cycled a puck to the point. Mikrogiannakis took a long wrist shot on goal that was redirected past Veltri by first-year forward Tyler Fukakusa in the slot.
  • RIT finished the run for a 4-2 lead with 51.6 left in the period after graduate student Elijah Gonsalves took a feed off the right half boards from Wilkie and scored on a wrist shot from the slot over Veltri's glove.
  • The Tigers made it a 5-2 game 2:58 into the third after Mahan played a puck off the right half boards to Jacques in the slot, who tipped a shot past Veltri.
  • Jacques finished the scoring with a shot inside a wide-open left post on a nice feed from the right goal line from graduate student forward Caleb Moretz with 10.8 left in regulation.
