Men's Hockey holds off Bentley, 2-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – RIT senior forward Jake Hamacher and sophomore defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis each scored a goal to lead the Tigers to a 2-1 victory at Bentley, Friday, in Atlantic Hockey action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams played a scoreless first period until Bentley's Harrison Scott deflected a Matt Lombardozzi shot past RIT freshman goaltender Tommy Scarfone for a power-play tally with :06 on the clock.
  • The Tigers bounced back with both its goals in the second period. Senior forward Nick Bruce fed Mikrogiannakis in the slot for a short finish between Falcon goaltender Evan DeBrouwer's pads with 16:06 on the clock.
  • Hamacher notched what proved to be the deciding tally with 6:44 left in the period, camping out in the middle of the slot to tip a shot from the point by junior defenseman Ryan Nicholson out of the air between DeBrouwer's pads. 
GAME NOTES
  • Scarfone was credited with 29 saves to finish one stop short of his second-straight 30-goal performance.
  • Mikrogiannakis tallied his first career goal in a Tiger sweater.
  • Hamacher scored his 40th career goal and Atlantic Hockey-leading 97th career point. He also moved into sole possession of fourth place in RIT Division I-era history with his 151st career game played.
  • Nicholson logged his first point of the season and 10th career assist while playing his 70th career game for the Tigers.
  • RIT killed five of six power play attempts while finishing 0-for-4 with an extra man.
  • Senior defenseman Dan Willett played his 152nd career game, trailing only Josh Mitchell (154, 2012-16) and Alexander Kuqali (153, 2012-16) in the RIT record books.  
  • RIT improved to 8-0-1 when leading after two periods this season. The Tigers are also 10-1-2 when holding an opponent to three goals or less, including an 8-1-1 mark when allowing two or fewer tallies.   
WHAT'S NEXT
RIT will take on the host Falcons in a rematch on Sunday (Jan. 30) at 2:00 p.m. Originally scheduled for Saturday, the game was pushed a day later due to the impending snowstorm set to hit the Boston area.
