WEST POINT, N.Y. – RIT sophomore goaltender Kolby Matthews made a career-high 40 saves to preserve a 2-2 tie at Army, Saturday, in Atlantic Hockey play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• RIT scored the lone goal of the first period after freshman forward Carter Wilkie won a face-off back to freshman forward Grady Hobbs at the top of the right face-off circle. Hobbs one-timed a shot through traffic under the cross bar with 3:03 on the clock for his first tally in a Tiger sweater.
• The Tigers took a 2-0 lead 56 seconds into the second period after senior forward Will Calverley scored inside an empty right post thanks to some nice tic-tac-toe passes from senior line mates Nick Bruce and Kobe Walker.
• Army evened the score with two goals in a two-minute span of the second. Mich Machlitt slipped a shot behind Matthews at 9:40 before Anthony Firriolo scored on a shot from the blue line through a crowd and passed a screened Matthews at 7:50.
• Matthews was credited with 14 saves during the scoreless third period and another two in overtime to preserve the tie.
• Army earned the extra Atlantic Hockey point with a 1-0 shootout victory.  

GAME NOTES

• Matthews made the most saves by a Tiger goalie since Logan Drackett totaled 41 stops in a 4-1 victory at Robert Morris on Feb. 8, 2020. Matthews also eclipsed the 31 saves he made in a 2-1 victory over visiting Mercyhurst last winter (Feb. 5).
• Army finished with a 42-20 advantage in shots.
• RIT won the face-off battle, 40-32, including 16 by Calverley.
• Wilkie notched his first collegiate assist on Hobbs' goal after scoring his first goal in last night's 4-3 victory over Army.
• Calverley notched his second-straight game with a goal after scoring the game-tying tally in Friday night's win over the Black Knights.
