ROCHESTER, NY – RIT mourns the passing of former women's ice hockey coach Rob Scuteri who passed away on Dec. 4. He was 75 years old.
From 1998-2002, Scuteri amassed a 79-28-14 record over four seasons on the Tigers bench. He won a career-high 21 games in 2001-02, finishing second in the ECAC Division III East standings. The Tigers lost to Manhattanville College in the ECAC Championship.
"Our entire RIT Athletics family is saddened by the news of Robert Scuteri passing," said Executive Director of Athletics Lou Spiotti, Jr. "His contributions to the educational and sports landscape in our community was monumental. He was a tremendous teacher who cared deeply for his students. A dedicated and skillful coach at all levels. Here at RIT his record was stellar leading RIT women's hockey to some of its finest years. His energy, passion and incredible character is something we will long remember about him. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Coach Scuteri's family"
Scuteri graduated from Aquinas Institute in Rochester where he played football, baseball and boxed. He then graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1970 with a degree in education before going on to earn a degree in physical education from Kent State University in 1973.
Scuteri is survived by his wife Patricia "Repp" Scuteri. Daughters: Jessica (Justin) Freimann, Nicole (Lester Muñiz) Scuteri. Granddaughters: Alice and Tessa Freimann. Sister: Anita (the late Patsy) Desimone, along with several nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, dear friends.
