Box Score SYRACUSE, NY -- The RIT women's hockey team fell 7-1 at Syracuse in its season opener, Friday evening. First-year forward Carrissa Hllywa scored her first collegiate goal for the Tigers.
Shots were 34-16 in favor of the Orange. The Tigers went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Syracuse converted 3-of-6 chances with the extra skater.
Hlywa scored the Tigers lone goal, while senior forward Tory Haywood and sophomore defender
Justine Larkin (Ottawa, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) each had an assist. Senior goalie
Jessi O'Leary (Woodstock, New Brunswick/Notre Dame Hounds) took the loss in net for RIT, making 27 saves.
Emma Polaska led Syracuse with two goals and an assist. Abby Moloughney tallied a goal and an assist, and Allison Small picked up the win in net for the Orange, making 15 saves.
Syracuse (1-2-0, 1-0-0 CHA) led 4-0 after the first period. Each team scored in the second period, while the Orange tacked on a pair of third-period goals.
RIT (0-1-1, 0-1-0 CHA) will look to bounce back against the host Orange this Sunday (Nov. 29) at 3 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
