ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's track and field team competed at the 2019 University of Rochester Spring Classic on Saturday from Fauver Stadium.
Curtis Geiger (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) nosed out teammate
Stephen Morrissey (New Milford, CT/Trinity-Pawling School) for the win in the 400-meter dash. Geiger crossed the finish line in 49.54 seconds, while Morrissey was right behind in 49.57 seconds.
Zach Thesier (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) (51.92 seconds) finished sixth.
Jay Humphreys (Sherman, CT/New Milford) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase by 12 seconds in a time of 10:04.67, while
Adam Taylor (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) (10:31.55) placed third. RIT had three top-eight finishers in the 5,000-meters.
Andrew Chabot (Campton, NH/Plymouth Regional) finished second in a time of 15:43.94, while
Kyle Higby (Mexico, NY/Mexico) was not far behind in fourth (15:48.74).
Neil Kolhatkar (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) placed eighth overall (16:21.32).
Chase Schuster (New Milford, CT/New Milford ) and
Jon Ennin (Sunnyvale, TX/Sunnyvale) finished in a virtual dead heat for fourth in the 200-meter dash. Schuster recorded a time of 23.506 seconds, while Ennin finished in 23.509 seconds to place fifth.
Alex Cooley (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) finished sixth in the 800-meters, crossing the finish line in 2:02.40.
Evan Feigel (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) placed sixth in the 1,500-meters, finishing with a time of 4:06.92.
Dan Jones (Lockport, NY/Lockport) (4:08.90) was right behind in ninth.
Jeff Walter (Buffalo, NY/St. Francis) recorded a time of 11.50 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100-meters.
Zack Wigent (Fariport, NY/Fairport) finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.26 seconds), while
Ellyson Grant (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (58.49 seconds). Wigent was also third in the high jump, clearing 1.80 meters.
RIT's throwers excelled, sweeping all four events.
Connor Murdock (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) won the javelin throw with a personal best throw of 48.49 meters.
Zach Darling (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) won both the hammer throw (46.78 meters) and shot put (13.66 meters).
Matthew Funicelli (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) emerged victorious in the discus throw, firing it 42.40 meters and was second in the hammer throw (42.12 meters).
Ethan Ettienne (Lanham, MD/Model Secondary School for the Deaf) was second in the shot put (12.78 meters) and third in the hammer throw (41.46 meters).
Peter Stefos (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton ) was third in the discus (34.69 meters), while Daniel Pingin placed third in the javelin throw (37.55 meters).
Thomas James (/) was second in the pole vault, clearing 4.41 meters.
Bryan Richiez (Hartford, CT/Academy of Aerospace and Engineering) placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.45 meters.
Noah Flynn (Corning, NY/Corning-Painted Post) (6.28 meters) and
Jeff Walter (Buffalo, NY/St. Francis) (6.19 meters) were RIT's top finishers in the long jump.
RIT right back in action next week, as a handful of student-athletes will compete at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia and several are at St. John Fisher for the Cardinal Classic on Saturday, April 27.
