ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team plays a home-and-home series against College Hockey America rival Syracuse University this weekend. The Tigers host the Orange from the Gene Polisseni Center Friday at 6 p.m. and head to Tennity Ice Pavilion for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday.
Tickets are free for Friday's game. RIT will hold its annual Skate With the Tigers event following Friday's game. At Skate With the Tigers, fans will receive a team picture and can obtain autographs from all members of the Tigers. A limited number of skates will be available to use free of charge at the Polisseni Center, but fans are encouraged to bring their own skates.
The Tigers (10-14-4, 6-8-0 CHA) are coming off a road split at CHA foe Lindenwood last weekend. RIT fell to Lindenwood by a score of 3-2 on Friday, but rebounded to win 4-3 Saturday. On Friday,
Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) and
Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) scored for the Tigers. Saturday,
Kathryn Kennedy (Hamilton, Ontario/) scored two goals, including the game-winner with 2:55 left in regulation and added an assist. Gout and
Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) also scored for RIT, while goaltender
Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) stopped 43 shots for her tenth win of the year.
Senior
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) and Gout are tied for the team lead in scoring with 17 points. Cornine has a team-best nine goals, while Gout leads the team with 12 assists.
Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) leads all RIT defensemen with 14 points, while Kennedy and Rushton have 13 points each. Lanteigne is tied for the national lead among all Division I goaltenders with 918 saves and is fourth with a .939 save percentage. She also has a 2.17 goals against average, while playing in all 28 games.
Syracuse enters Friday's game with an 8-18-2 overall record and is 8-5-1 in league play. The Orange have a four-game unbeaten streak in league play. Syracuse swept a pair of games at Mercyhurst last weekend. Allie Munroe leads a balanced scoring attack with 13 points on three goals and 10 assists. Lauren Bellefontaine is right behind with 12 points, while Emma Polaski leads the squad with eight goals. Maddi Welch is 3-11-1 in net with a 3.73 goals against average and an .859 save percentage.
This weekend's games mark the third and fourth meetings between the two schools this season. RIT rallied from a 4-2 third period deficit with four goals in a span of 7:34 to knock off the Orange, 6-4 from Tennity Ice Pavilion on Nov. 16.
Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) scored two goals, while Cornine,
Taylor Baker (Toronto, Ontario/North Toronto Collegiate Institute) and
Claudia Black (Newmarket, Ontario/St. Maximilian Kobe) added a goal and an assist apiece. Lanteigne made 38 saves in the win. On Jan. 11, RIT exploded for four first period goals on its way to a 4-2 win.
Jade Mancini (Burlington, Ontario/Bishop Tonnos),
Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario/Mississauga Jr. Chiefs), Cornine and
Jordan Marchese (Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) scored for the Tigers, while Lanteigne made 38 saves.
Syracuse leads the all-time series between the two schools, 19-9-2. The Orange enter the weekend third in the CHA standings with 17 points, while RIT is fourth with 12 points. Each team has six regular season games remaining.
