ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team puts its three-game winning streak on the line this weekend, as College Hockey America rival Mercyhurst University visits the Gene Polisseni Center for a pair of games on Jan. 18-19. Friday's game starts at 6 p.m., while Saturday's contest gets underway at 1 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for youth. Admission is free for all RIT faculty, staff, alumni and students (one ticket per valid ID). Tickets are available at the Gene Polisseni Center Box Office, by calling (585) 475-4121 or by visiting
www.rittickets.com. There will be free popcorn at the concession stands on Saturday for all fans in attendance.
The Tigers (8-10-4, 3-4-0 CHA) enter the weekend looking to extend their winning streak to four games. Last Friday, RIT scored four first period goals en route to a 4-2 win over CHA foe Syracuse.
Jordan Marchese (Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) scored a goal and added an assist, while
Kathryn Kennedy (Hamilton, Ontario/) added two assists.
Jade Mancini (Burlington, Ontario/Bishop Tonnos),
Hunter Barnett (Caledon, Ontario/Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) and
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) also scored for the Tigers, while
Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) made 38 saves in the win.
Cornine leads the team in scoring with 16 points on nine goals and seven assists. Gout leads RIT with 10 assists and is second with 13 points. Lanteigne leads all of Division I with 701 saves and is seventh with a .938 save percentage. She is second among all CHA goaltenders with a 2.12 goals against average, while playing in all 22 games.
The Tigers are 7-4-1 over their last 12 games.
Mercyhurst enters the weekend with a 9-9-3 overall record and is 6-2-0 in league play. The Lakers were off last weekend, but earned a tie and a win versus Colgate on Jan. 5-6. Emma Nuutinen leads a balanced scoring attack with 18 points on 11 goals and seven assists. Maggie Knott has a team-best 12 assists and is right behind with 15 points. Six different Lakers have at least 10 points. Sarah McDonnell is 8-3-1 in net with a 2.22 goals against average and a .909 save percentage.
Mercyhurst leads the all-time series between the two schools, 22-4-0. The two teams will also play a pair of games at the Mercyhurst Ice Center to close out the regular season on March 1-2.
Both teams have 12 CHA games remaining. The Lakers are second in the league standings with 12 points, while RIT was tied for third with eight points.
