Becca Schwan (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy) of the RIT women's track and field team will compete in the 800-meter run at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. Preliminaries for the 800-meters will take place at 4 p.m. Friday, with the final getting underway at 4:50 p.m. EST/3:50 p.m. CT Saturday.
Schwan enters the event as the No. 14 seed. Last weekend, Schwan won the 800-meter championship at the 2018 All-Atlantic Region Championships with a season-best and indoor personal record time of 2:15.53. She won three events (800-meters, 4 x 400-meter relay and distance medley relay) at the 2018 Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 23-24.
Schwan's strong indoor season comes after an excellent 2017 cross country season, as she earned All-Liberty League First Team honors and All-Atlantic Region accolades.
The 2015-16 Liberty League Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Year, Schwan is a five-time Liberty League Weekly Performer of the Week. She has a personal-best time of 2:14.83 (outdoor) in the 800-meters and is a seven-time Liberty League Champion. Schwan has won the last three Liberty League Championships in the 800-meters (2017 indoor, 2017 outdoor, 2018 indoor).
