TROY, NY – Head coach
Phil Baretela picked up his first dual win at RIT, as the women's swimming and diving team (1-0) knocked off defending Liberty League Champion Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (0-1), 157.5-141.5 at Robison Pool Saturday afternoon.
Five individuals won at least one race for the Tigers, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Sedera Zbranak (Austin, TX/Lake Travis),
Alicia Shenal (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta),
Mililani Rosare (Campbell, CA/Westmont) and
Pheobe Huey (Fort Collins, CO/Fossil Ridge) sealed the win, emerging victorious in a time of 3:41.27.
Zbranak, Huey, Rosare and
Olivia Phillips (Louisville, CO/Fairview) won two individual events apiece for the Tigers, while
Addy Maykish (Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) picked up a single victory.
Zbranak, who has represented RIT in each of the last two NCAA Championships, began her senior season in fine fashion, winning the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:09.56 and took the 100-yard butterfly in 59.61 seconds.
Phillips, a fellow senior won the 200-yard butterfly by 10 seconds in 2:22.07 and 500-yard freestyle by just under three seconds in 5:37.89.
The freshmen duo of Huey and Rosare was key in guiding RIT to the win this afternoon. Huey won both sprint freestyle events, the 50-yard and 100-yard contests. She recorded a time of 25.19 seconds in the 50-free and 54.70 seconds right after in the 100-free. Rosare took the 200-free in 2:00.91 and the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:16.01. She was also second in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Maykish earned a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle, defeating teammate
Emily Lederman (Morgantown, WV/Morgantown) by 13 seconds in a time of 11:33.92. Maykish was also second to Phillips in the 500-free.
Diver
Jessica Kaups (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights) was second in both the 1- and 3-meter events, while
Anna Johnson (Knoxville, TN/Farragut) placed third on the 1-meter board.

RIT is right back in action with its opening home meet of the season versus Oswego State University at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.
