GLASSBORO, NJ – The RIT women's cross country won its first meet of the 2017 season, defeating 12 other teams to take the Bill Fritz Invitational hosted by Rowan University on Saturday afternoon.
Racing in unseasonably hot weather, the Tigers claimed five of the top-14 positions, despite three runners who did not finish due to injury or dehydration. RIT recorded a team score of 42 points, as host Rowan was second with 57 and Stevens Institute of Technology was third with 59 points.
Senior
Jennifer Crossen (Bason, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) was RIT's top finisher, placing third overall out of 109 runners who finished in a time of 24:07.7 over the 6,000-meter course. She recorded a mile rate of 6:28.2. Kate Edwards of Bryn Maur College was the individual winner in a time of 23:17.24, while Mary Visca of Stevens was second.
Junior
Alexis Scott (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) enjoyed a tremendous race for the Tigers, placing fifth overall in a time of 24:32.08.
Brooke Busa (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) finished seventh in the race, crossing the finish line in 24:43.14.
Alaina Celeste (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and
Emma Snyder (Nunda, NY/Nunda) rounded out RIT's top-five, finishing 13th and 14th overall. Celeste recorded a time of 25:09.31 and Snyder went in 25:09.97.
Alex Carpenter (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) (22nd - 25:53.22),
Jessica Dzialo (Latham, NY/Shaker) (25th – 26:25.19) and
Kelly Weiskittel (Walden, NY/Valley Central) (27th – 26:39.33) earned top-30 finishes.
Danielle Wallace (East Chatham, NY/Chatham),
Emme Perkins (Tully, NY/Tully),
Breanna Dionne (Auburn, NH/Manchester) and
Sarah Cannon (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) also placed in the top-50.
RIT is right back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Harry Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan College. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
