ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's cross country recorded an impressive third place finish out of 13 at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational, held at Genesee Valley Park on Saturday morning.

RIT, who was celebrating Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend and its Tiger Den Event, finished with 106 points. Elizabethtown, ranked 20th in the USTFCCCA Division III National Poll, won the meet with 25 team points, while Case Western Reserve was second overall with 45 points. The Tigers defeated host Rochester, who finished fourth and SUNY Geneseo, ranked fourth nationally.

Elizabethtown had a clean sweep of the top three positions, as Brenna McNamee, Maria Anderson and Kelsey Brady recorded a 1-2-3 finish. McNamee won in a time of 22:42.3.

Junior Becca Schwan (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy) continued her strong season, finishing fifth overall out of 192 runners, completing the 6,000-meter course in a time of 23:02.1. Classmate Alexis Scott (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) placed tenth, crossing the finish line in 23:35.1. It was Scott's second consecutive race recording a personal best time.

Junior Brooke Busa (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) was RIT's third-best finisher, placing 27th overall in 24:20.8. Senior Kyle Trettner was right behind in 24:26.9, 29th overall, while Emma Snyder (Nunda, NY/Nunda) crossed the finish line 37th overall in 24:34.8  to score points for the Tigers.

Alaina Celeste (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and Emme Perkins (Tully, NY/Tully) also secured top-50 finishes.

"Running without your full compliments of runners is never easy, but the ladies rallied very well today," said RIT head coach Dave Stevens. "Overall, I was pleased with our performance, but know we have room for improvement as we prepare for the Liberty League Championship."

RIT is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28, as they look for victory at the 2017 Liberty League Championship, which will be held at Vassar College. Start time is 1 p.m.
