Women's track and field enjoys great success at RIT Early Season Invitational

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's track and field team had several good performances in the five-team RIT Early Season Invitational, held at the Gordon Field House on Thursday evening.
 
Cortland State, Nazareth College, Roberts Wesleyan College, and St. John Fisher College joined RIT in its home-opening meet.
 
Marissa Dispenza (Batavia, NY/Batavia) and Jennifer Crossen (Bason, NY/Oakfield-Alabama) picked up wins in track events for the Tigers. Dispenza won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.70 seconds, and was third in the 400-meter dash (1:01.08), while Crossen took the 3,000-meter run by nearly 35 seconds in 10:53.92.
 
Jessica DeAngelo (Batavia, NY/Alexander), Emma Egli (Sidney, NY/Sidney), and Ali Binga (Lockport, NY/Starpoint) were third, fourth, and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles behind Dispenza, while Nicole Mackey (South New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) placed second in the 3,000-meters. Binga was also second in the 500-meter dash, finishing in 1:23.86. Alex Carpenter (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) placed third in the 1,000-meters in a time of 3:24.80, while Darcy DeAngelis (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) was fifth in the 60-meter dash (8.39 seconds).
 
The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Binga, Amelia Brunner (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield), Dispenza, and Bella Taylor () finished third in a time of 4:23.01.
 
In field events, senior Kendra Bush (Palmyra, NY/Newark) won both throwing competitions. She took the shot put in an ECAC qualifying throw of 11.84 meters and won the weight throw with a toss of 13.19 meters. Teammate Madeline Pizzo (Irondequoit, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) was second in the shot put (11.18 meters), while RIT's Emily Zebrowski (Springville, NY/Springville) placed second in the weight throw (12.49 meters). Julia Wojciehowski was fourth in the weight throw and fifth in the shot put.
 
RIT swept the top two finishes in the pole vault, as Samantha Kaplan (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) and DeAngelo had identical leaps of 3.10 meters. Megan Cornelius (Freeville, NY/Dryden) was right behind in fourth with a vault of 2.95 meters. Jess Calzolari (Longmont, CO/Mead) placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.50 meters, while Emily Mills (Dracut, MA/Central Catholic) was fifth.

RIT is off until Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, when they host the RIT Invitational from the Gordon Field House. That meet will begin at 10 a.m.
