ROCHESTER, NY — The RIT women's hockey hosts two non-conference games against Bemidji State University of the WCHA to close out the calendar year on Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 from the Gene Polisseni Center. The two games against Bemidji State also serve as RIT's final two non-conference games of the season.
The Tigers and Beavers will face off at 2:05 p.m. Friday and 1:05 p.m. Saturday, in the first two meetings between the two schools.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for RIT staff, faculty and alumni, $3 for youth, and as always, admission is free for all RIT students (one ticket per valid ID). Tickets are available at the Gene Polisseni Center and Gordon Field House Box Offices, by calling (585) 475-4121 or by visiting www.rithockey.com. This weekend, fans are urged to bring any new or gently used toys to be donated to "Toys For Tots" organization. Fans who bring a toy will receive a free ticket. Any RIT student who brings a toy will receive a free food voucher.
RIT is coming off a weekend home-and-home series against Syracuse, where the Tigers earned a point Friday, rallying to a 2-2 tie, before falling 3-0 at home on Saturday.
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) scored both RIT goals on Friday, both coming in the third period.
Jenna de Jonge (Abbotsford, British Columbia/George Elliot) made 32 saves in Friday's tie, and 23 on Saturday.
After recording just one goal over the first 10 games of the season, sophomore
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) has emerged as RIT's go to scorer, with five goals and 10 points over the last 10 games. Cornine, who has two of RIT's three game-winning goals this season, scored both RIT goals in the the third period of Friday's tie at Syracuse.
Bemidji State enters the weekend with a 6-11-1 record, including a 4-11-1 mark as a member of the WCHA. Last weekend, the Beavers split a pair of road games at Minnesota State, winning 2-0 on Friday, but falling 3-2 the next day. Emily Bergland and Madison Hutchinson lead the team in scoring with 10 points apiece. Bergland has a team-best five goals, while Hutchinson, Alexis Joyce, and Haley Mack lead the team with six assists apiece. In net, Brittni Mowat has played in 16 games with a 5-10-1 record, 2.45 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.
After this weekend, the Tigers are off until 2017, returning with four straight road games — at Mercyhurst on Jan. 13-14 and Penn State on Jan. 21-22. RIT is then back home on Jan. 27-28 for a two-game series against Lindenwood. RIT will play five regular season home games in 2017.
