TROY, NY -- The RIT (1-1) men's swimming and diving team was defeated 187-109 at Liberty League rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1-0) Saturday afternoon.
In the opening event of the meet, the team of
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods),
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial),
Daniel Yuen-Schat (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser) and
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) earned four points for the Tigers with a second-place finish in a time of 1:40.59.
RIT earned eight points in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) was second in a time of 10:42.31.
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) placed third in a time of 10:44.01, and
Andrew Rearson (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) placed fifth in a time of 11:08.72.
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora) and
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) were second and third, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle. Hayes finished in a time of 1:49.10, while Paine came home in a time of 1:49.58.
Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) won both diving events for the Tigers. He won the 3-meter event with a score of 250.50, while Ben Hamilton placed third with a score of 214.20. Dieroff won the 1-meter event with a score of 223.65, while Hamilton placed third with a score of 196.80.
O'Gorman, Rothrock and Nick Genovese placed second, third and fourth in the 200-yard backstroke. O'Gorman came home in a time of 2:03.50, while Rothrock and Genovese finished in 2:07.23, and 2:10.92.
RIT returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they travel to SUNY Fredonia for a meet that begins at 1 p.m.
