ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team (6-4) closed out the 2015-16 regular season with a 173-127 victory over Nazareth College (4-4), 173-127 at the Judson Pool on Saturday afternoon. Before the meet, RIT honored seniors
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North),
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood),
Matthew Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East), and
Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern).
The Tigers opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay in the final strides in a time of 1:38.55, just 14 one-hundredths of a second ahead of the Nazareth entry.
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods),
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial),
Thomas Regan (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline), and Brown were the winning foursome for the Tigers.
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) took the 200-yard freestyle by over two seconds in a time of 1:47.28.
John Stelmack (Toccoa, GA/Stephens County), Nevers, and Madar completed a 1-2-3 finish for the Tigers in the 100-breaststroke. Stelmack was the winner in a time of 1:01.97.
Brown and Rothrock completed a 1-2 finish for the Tigers in the 50-free, as Brown had a winning time of 22.12 seconds. Brown, Paine, and Rothrock went 1-2-3 in the 100-free. Brown once again a winner in a time of 48.42 seconds.
Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) and
Benjamin Hamilton (Addison, NY/Addison) finished first and second in both diving events for the Tigers. Dieroff barely nipped Hamilton, 247.80 to 246.85 in the 3-meter event, while Dieroff outlasted Hamilton, 251.15 to 243.60 in the 1-meter.
RIT concluded the day with a three second win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Paine, Berus,
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth), and Brown cruised to a time of 3:18.15.
Rothrock was second in the 100-backstroke in 55.01 seconds, while
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) placed second in the 200-fly in a time of 2:06.44.
Carl Schlehr (Maineville, OH/Kings) recorded a second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, Hayes was second in the 500-free, and
Daniel Yuen-Schat (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser) placed second in the 100-fly.
The Tigers are back in action with the UNYSCSA Championships, hosted by Ithaca College from Feb. 17-20. Morning action begins at 10 a.m. each day, while evening swimming and diving starts at 6 p.m.
