ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's swimming and diving team (5-4) fell to Genesee River rival Rochester (4-5), by a score of 166-134 at Judson Pool on Saturday afternoon. Four different Tigers won events in addition to a relay victory.
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) was RIT's lone dual winner on the swimming side, taking the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.16 seconds and the 100-free in 48.32 seconds. He was also part of the 400-yard freestyle relay, along with
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North),
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth), and
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) that won in a time of 3:18.65.
Diver
Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) picked up wins in both diving events, first by taking the 3-meter with a score of 301.95 and recording an excellent score of 325.27 to win the 1-meter event.
Wil Seifried (Springfield, PA/Springfield) picked up a win by just over seven seconds in a time of 10:32.89 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
John Stelmack (Toccoa, GA/Stephens County) earned a tight victory by 17 one-hundredths of a second in the 200-breastroke in 2:16.83.
The 4 x 200-meter relay team of
Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods),
Shawn Nevers (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial),
Thomas Regan (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline), and Brown placed second in a time of 1:39.37.
Paine and
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora) were second and third in the 200-free in times of 1:50.03 and 1:50.17, respectively, while Rothrock picked up a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.66 seconds.
Daniel Yuen-Schat (Honolulu, HI/Kaiser) was second in the 100-fly in 56.05 seconds.
Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) and
Carl Schlehr (Maineville, OH/Kings) placed second and third in the 200-yard individual medley.
RIT wraps up the regular season with a home dual meet against Nazareth on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. The Tigers will honor its senior class before the meet.
