ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's swimming and diving team (6-3) picked up a key victory in the final event of the evening, getting back in the win column with a narrow 124-116 victory against William Smith (6-2) at the Judson Pool on Tuesday night.
In the final event of the evening, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the group of
Katrina Mayer (Bristol, VT/Vergennes Union),
Daylen Smith (Lockwood, NY/Waverly),
Allison Moulton (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), and
Sarah Evans (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) beat the Herons' relay team by over four seconds, finishing in a time of 1:43.17, giving them enough points for the winning margin. Evans was also involved in an amazing battle in the 100-yard freestyle, as her and William Smith's Kelley Mantz raced to a tie, with both swimmers finishing in 56.53. Smith finished just a second later with a time of 57.53.
Mayer added an individual victory to her relay win, taking first in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming in a time of 25.95.
Adeline Maykish (Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) had a solid day individually, leading the Tigers with two wins in the individual events. Maykish started her evening with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 11:28.50. She then swam in the 500-yard freestyle, winning in 5:30.64.
Olivia Phillips (Louisville, CO/Fairview) also had a strong evening in the pool, picking up a victory in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:02.68. She also picked up a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming a time of 1:06.77, just edging
Allison Crim (Manchester, MD/Manchester Valley)'s time of 1:07.02.
Natalie Snyder (Rockville, MD/Rockville) dominated in the diving boards on Tuesday. In the 1-meter dive, she picked up 270.50 points, then finished the sweep with a 262.50 in the 3-meter dive.
The Tigers will continue their home stand with a Saturday matchup against the University of Rochester at 1 p.m.
