MEET RESULTS

ALFRED, NY -
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) won three races and the RIT men's swimming and diving team won its first five events en route to a 132-102 road victory over Alfred University (0-2) on Saturday. The Tigers (2-1) won eight events on the afternoon, with swimmers placing 1-2 four times.

RIT started building momentum with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of Derek Rothrock (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods), Matt Butler, Tom Regan, and Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) won in 1:39.94. RIT then turned to the individual events, as Joe Wang (Framingham, MA/Framingham) and Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) finished 1-2 in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Wang won the first of two events in 10:32.82, while Berus finished in 10:49.48, nearly six seconds ahead of the next swimmer. Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) next joined the RIT winners with a narrow victory in the 200-yard freestyle, winning in 1:50.30, just four-tenths of a second ahead of the Saxons' Alec Toth.

Brown picked up another victory in the fourth men's event, the 50-yard freestyle, which he won in what was another tight race. Brown's time of 22.72 was three-tenths of a second ahead of the next swimmer. Rothrock and John Stelmack (Toccoa, GA/Stephens County) capped off the early hot start with a 1-2 finish in the Men's 200-yard IM. Rothrock won in 2:05.20, with Stelmack just behind in 2:10.88, just getting second place by three-hundreths of  second over Alfred's Jake Olson, who finished third.

Brown's third victory of the afternoon came in the 100-yard freestyle, as he and Paine led all racers. Brown finished in 49.33, with Paine trailing him in 51.12. In the next men's event, the 100-yard backstroke was a close race, with the top three swimmers finishing within a second of each other. Rothrock won his second event in a time of 56.71, with John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) finishing just behind him in 57.78, a tenth of a second ahead of third place.

Wang won his second event in the 500-yard freestyle, winning in 5:05.97, just 24 hundredths of a second ahead of second place.

On the diving boards, Ben Hamilton finished just short of winning the 3-meter dive, coming in second with 206.63 points, 28.94 points behind the leader. On the 1-meter dive, Hamilton and Alex Dieroff (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) took second and third place, respectively, with scores of 211.20 and 210.83.

RIT will next swim at the friendly confines of Judson Pool as they take on Fredonia (0-3) on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
