ROCHESTER, NY – RIT men's swimming and diving team (5-3) earned its fifth win of the season, defeating Hamilton College 152-146 at Judson Pool Saturday afternoon. The Tigers celebrated seniors
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers),
Julius Jeong (Salisbury, MD/Wicomico),
Nate Marshall (Waverly, NY/Waverly), and
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka), who were competing in their final regular season home meet at RIT.
Junior
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) led the Tigers with two individual wins. Brown took the top spot in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle with times of 22.42 and 48.98 respectively.
Junior
Matthew Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) picked up a first place finish in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:00.68.
Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern) finished right behind him in 1:03.20.
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:01.90, while
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) took second in the 500 freestyle race with a time of 5:02.22.
The Tigers set the pace in both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. The team of O'Gorman, Butler,
Justin Morris (Holliston, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School), and Brown set the pace in the medley finishing in a time of 1:40.17. Paine,
Samuel Shpuntoff (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis),
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview), and Brown finished the freestyle relay in 3:14.63.
In the diving action, RIT took the first three spots in both the one and 3-meter diving events. DePalo led the way with a score of 295.30 in the 3-meter. Tellgren and
Benjamin Hamilton (Addison, NY/Addison) finished right behind him with scores of 292.95 and 206.90 respectively. Tellgren earned the first spot in the 1-meter with 301.85 points, followed by DePalo scoring 272.06, and Hamilton with 193.25.
The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. on the campus of the University of Rochester.
