Box Score ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team (15-11, 10-6 Liberty League) braved the elements, including a three-hour rain delay to have its scheduled doubleheader shortened to just one game, falling to Clarkson (13-11, 9-6 Liberty League), 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. Before the game, RIT honored seniors
Michael Burns (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta),
Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols), and
Tyler Leichtenberger (Warren, PA/Warren Area), and
Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport).
Rain stayed in the Rochester area through 2 p.m., delaying the contest until 4 p.m. It was determined that the teams would play one nine-inning game instead of the normally scheduled doubleheader due to darkness issues.
Once the game started, Clarkson pitcher Greg Jasek stole the show, allowing just three hits and two walks, while striking out six batters in the complete-game, 129-pitch effort, keeping the Tigers off balance all afternoon.
Chris Miller was 2-for-4 for the Golden Knights, with a triple and two RBI's. Jasek helped his own cause at the plate with a double and two runs scored, while David Wixted doubled twice and scored two runs. John Coleman also had two hits and a run batted in for Clarkson, who out-hit RIT, 10-3.
RIT scored its lone run in the fifth inning, as
Taylor Hogan (Rochester, NY/Brighton) singled home
Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia), who also singled to leadoff the frame. Canestro had RIT's other hit. On the mound,
Brandon Cohall (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) took the loss, allowing nine hits and four runs (two earned), while striking out five batters in seven innings. He had a streak of 27 straight innings without allowing an earned run snapped in the first inning today. Cohall has a strikeout to walk ratio of 32-5 this season.
Brian Sheridan (Trumansburg, NY/Trumansburg) and
David Nitsch (Penfield, NY/Penfield) threw scoreless innings in relief for the Tigers.
Clarkson scored a run to go up 1-0 in the first with two outs in the first inning, as Jasek doubled and scored on a triple to the gap by Miller. The Knights would extend their lead in the third, scoring a pair of unearned runs, and made it 4-0 in the fifth, as Coleman singled home Wixted.
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 47-34-1. The two teams will meet on Sunday in a doubleheader at Tiger Stadium that gets underway at 12 p.m.
