ROCHESTER, NY -
Former RIT men's cross country and track standout Zach Miller (Ironville, PA/Hempfield) won the 2014 Lake Sonoma 50-mile race in Northern California on Saturday, April 12, finishing in a new course time of 6 hours, 11 minutes and 10 seconds. Miller, who is quickly becoming one of the top ultrarunners in the country, won the JFK 50-mile event in 2013, and earned an invitation to compete in the Western States 100-mile race later in the year. Miller was interviewed after the race.

Miller, who competed at RIT from 2007-2012, was named to the 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Track and Field/Country Academic All-Region squad. Miller, a Mechanical Engineering major, finished his collegiate career with a tremendous 3.76 grade-point average.

"It is not a surprise to see Zach reach this type of success," said RIT head coach Dave Warth. "He is one of the hardest working runners I've coached at RIT, consistently logging the most miles in his training."

Miller earned All-Empire 8 first team cross country honors in 2009 and 2010, and was a second team selection in 2008. In addition, he was a two-time RIT Male Athlete of the Week and Empire 8 Runner of the Week in 2010. Miller ran 10,000-meters in 32:03 at the 2012 NYSCTC Championships, placing second and was part of the RIT Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2010-11.

On the academic side, Miller was a member of the RIT Honors College and Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society), as well as Pi Tau Sigma (International Mechanical Engineering Honor Society. Miller was also named to the Dean's list 10 times.
