RIT men's swimming and diving closes out regular season with win over Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team (5-6) picked up a convincing 167-118 win over Nazareth College (3-5) in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Judson Pool on the campus of RIT. Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda) and Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) each won two individual events to lead the Tigers.

In the opening event of the meet, the Tigers swept the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Kris Kodweis, Julius Jeong (Salisbury, MD/Wicomico), Matt Rolleston and Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) placed first in a time of 1:39.69. The team of Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area), Matt Butler, Ryan Moore (Herndon, VA/Oakton) and Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda) placed second in a time of 1:40.85.

Farrell also picked up two individual events, winning with 50-yard freestyle (22.58) and the 100-yard freestyle (49.29).

The Tigers took the top four places in the 50 freestyle. Farrell was first, while Moore was second (23.72), Ryan Leeson (Elma, NY/Iroquois) was third (23.75) and Butler was fourth (23.78).

DePalo won both diving competitions, winning the 3-meter competition with a final score of 283.58 and winning the 1-meter with a final score of 258.15.

John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:25.39), and Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.89).

Butler picked up a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.97), while Justin Morris (Marlborough, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:04.72.

RIT will compete at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships beginning Wednesday, February 19 and running through February 22 hosted by Ithaca College.
