SYRACUSE, NY - The RIT men's swimming and diving team (4-2) had its four-meet winning streak snapped, falling to LeMoyne College (4-0) by a score of 128-113 at the Reverend Vincent J. Ryan pool on Saturday afternoon.
RIT swept both diving events, as
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) took the 1-meter with a score of 179.90, winning by less than a point over LeMoyne's Josh Byrne, while
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) nipped Byrne in the 3-meter, 274.05 to 271.60. Tellgren was right behind in the 3-meter, finishing with a score of 265.95.
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) annexed the 100-yard freestyle by 18 one-hundredths of a second in a time of 50.66 seconds, while the 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood),
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area),
Samuel Shpuntoff (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis), and Facchine emerged victorious in a time of 3:21.23.
Second place finishes for RIT included
John O'Gorman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:36.00) and 500-free (5:05.68), Paine in the 200-free (1:49.14), Brown in the 50-free (22.79 seconds),
Justin Morris (Holliston, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) in the 200-fly (2:07.50), Joshua Enrico in the 100-backstroke (2:03.19), and
Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern) in the 200-breaststroke (2:23.01).
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6 at the 2014 Liberty League Championships hosted by the University of Rochester.
