ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's cross country team is continuing its ascent in the national rankings of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, now ranked No. 20, as the organization released its weekly rankings on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The Tigers moved up 12 spots this week to claim their highest ranking in school history.
The Tigers, who are also ranked No. 5 in the Atlantic Region rankings, continued their excellent start this season, finishing third at the prestigious SUNY Geneseo Invitational on Oct. 4. On Sept. 6, the Tigers rolled to a resounding win at the SUNY Oswego Cross Country Invitational and on Sept. 20, recorded a strong third place finish out of 22 teams at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational.
Sophomore
Emma Jones (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) is a three-time Liberty League Runner of the Week this season with a win, second, and third place finish, smashing a 6,000-meter school record by 23 seconds at Geneseo, while senior
Stephanie Milici (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) garnered a third place finish at Oswego and was sixth at the Yellowjacket Invitational. In addition, juniors
Becky Greiner (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta),
Kristine Reed (Walton, NY/Walton), and
Alicia Sutphin (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) have consistently placed in RIT's top-five,
RIT is off this weekend, but returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Inter Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College. That race gets underway at 11:45 a.m. and will feature several nationally-ranked teams.
