PITTSFORD, NY - Despite not running its top group of runners, the nationally-ranked RIT women's cross country team placed fifth out of 10 teams at the 2014 NYSCTC Championships hosted by St. John Fisher on Saturday. The Tigers finished with 161 team points, while champion St. Lawrence had a team score of 20 points.
RIT's top three runners of the day finished in succession. Making her first start of the season, senior
Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) was RIT's top finisher, placing 28th out of 113 runners in a time of 24:55.0 over the 6,000-meter course at the St. John Fisher Golf Course.
Amy Becker (Colonie, NY/Colonie) was right behind White, finishing seven-tenths of a second back in 24:55.7. Freshman
Keira Higgins (Schenevus, NY/Milford) was 30th overall in a time of 25:03.8.
Faith Gruver (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and
Martine Bosch (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) rounded out RIT's top-five, placing 47th and 48th respectively. Gruver recorded a time of 25:36.2, while Bosch went in 25:38.1.
Danielle Marino (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs),
Jennifer Crossen (Basom, NY/Oakfield-Alabama),
Erin Bucci (Jim Thorpe, PA/Jim Thorpe), and Brenna Dionne all finished in the top-75 for the Tigers. Marino was 61st, while Crossen placed 65th, Bucci 66th, and Dionne, 71st.
The Tigers will return their full complement of runners next weekend, when they compete at the 2014 Liberty League Championships in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m.
