ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (1-1) men's swimming and diving team defeated SUNY Oswego (0-1) 143-89 Wednesday evening in dual meet action from Judson Pool on the campus of RIT. The win is the first of the season for the Tigers. Nine different Tigers picked up wins in individual events Wednesday, and RIT picked up a victory in the 200-yard medley relay.
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora) picked up a win in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:49.81. Freshman
Samuel Shpuntoff (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) won his first individual event at RIT winning the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:50.95.
Junior
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.71, while sophomore Matt Rolleston won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:06.18. Senior
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) was a winner in the 3-meter diving with a score of 271.35, and classmate Matt DiPalo was second in the event with a score of 263.05.
Justin Morris (Holliston, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 56.14, and
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area) won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.13. Freshman
Joshua Enrico (West Chester, OH/Lakota East) won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 56.66 for his first collegiate victory. Junior
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:12.13.
In relay action, the team of Enrico,
Matthew Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East), Rolleston and Brown won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:41.62.
RIT return to action this Saturday, Oct. 25 when the Tigers host Alfred University at 1 p.m. in Judson Pool.
