CANTON, NY - The RIT men's swimming and diving team (3-1) extended its winning streak to three meets, cruising to a 137-88 win over host St. Lawrence University at the Augsbury Pool on Saturday afternoon. RIT won seven individual events and one relay.
The Tigers opened the meet in fine fashion, as the 200-yard medley relay team of
Steven Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area),
Matthew Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East),
Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda), and
Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) emerged victorious in a time of 1:43.76.
Farrell took the 200-yard freestyle over teammate
Justin Morris (Marlborough, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) by 63 one-hundredths of a second in a time of 1:51.40. Morris and
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) were first and second in the 100-free. Morris recorded a time of 50.27 seconds, while Berus went in 52.02.
Corey Birsner (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) won the 200-yard butterfly over teammate
Ryan Moore (Herndon, VA/Oakton) by five seconds in 2:14.46.
John O'Gorman (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier Central) won the 500-free by 13 seconds in a time of 5:15.02.
Austin Hayes (Aurora, OH/Aurora) placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:13.03.
On the diving side,
Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) took the 1-meter event with a score of 244.75 and was second in the 3-meter with a 226.95. DePalo is a two-time Liberty League Diver of the Week this season.
The Tigers are back home for the next two weekends. On Nov. 16, RIT hosts LeMoyne at 1 p.m. and on Nov. 23 take on Fredonia State University, also at 1 p.m.
