Men's swimming and diving records first win of 2013-14 at Oswego State

The RIT men's swimming and diving (1-1) team recorded its first dual meet victory of the 2013-14 season, rolling to a 134.5-108.5 victory over Oswego State on Wednesday evening. RIT won seven individual events and one relay race.

RIT's 4 x 200-yard medley relay team of Steve Paine (York, PA/Dallastown Area), Matt Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East), Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda), and Ryan Facchine (Fairview, PA/Fairview) opened the evening by winning in a time of 1:42.58.

Freshman Alexander Popescu continued his strong start to the season, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle by 21 seconds in a time of 10:31.71, and the 500-free over teammate Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) by just under four seconds in 5:05.77.

Fellow first-year swimmer Matt Rolleston (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) was victorious in the 200-individual medley in 2:06.63, then took the 100-butterfly over Ryan Moore (Herndon, VA/Oakton) by just over a second in 54.77 seconds.

Junior diver John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) easily won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events. He took the 1-meter with a score of 251.55, then annexed the 3-meter with a score of 250.60. Last week's Liberty League Men's Diver of the week Matt DePalo (Franklin, MA/Xaverian Brothers) was second in each event.

Butler won the 100-yard breaststroke over teammate Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern) by 19 one-hundredths of a second in 1:03.90.

Paine was second in the 200-freestyle and 100-backstroke, while Farrell placed second in the 100-freestyle.

RIT is back in action on Friday, Nov. 1, with a dual meet at Alfred University that gets underway at 6 p.m.
