ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team defeated SUNY New Paltz 276-74, and fell to SUNY Geneseo 231-124 in tri-meet action between the three schools this weekend at Judson Pool on the campus of RIT. Geneseo defeated New Paltz 279-60.
On Friday, the Tigers opened the meet with a second place finish in the 800-yard freestyle Relay. The team of
Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili),
Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda),
Wade Piotrowski (Webster, NY/Webster Schroder) and
Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) came home second in a time of 7:29.16.
Ryan Brannan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) came home third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 54.27. RIT placed three in the top-10 of the event with
Justin Morris (Marlborough, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) placing sixth, and
Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood) placing eighth.
The team of Brannan, Farrell, Brown, and Deacon won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:27.78.
Scott Matchett (Rochester, NY/Brighton) (55.90) and Michael Allen (56.83) were third and fourth respectively in the 100-yard backstroke, while
Matt Butler (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) (1:01.76) and
Alex Madar (Suffern, NY/Suffern) (1:02.75) were first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The team of Allen, Butler, Brannan and Deacon were second in the 200-yard medley Relay, coming home in a time of 1:38.76.
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) won the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 499.25.
Tim Ruth (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) was third with a score 321.55. Tellgren also won the 1-meter competition with a final score of 491.60
On Saturday, the team of Matchett, Butler, Brannan, and Farrell placed second in the 400-yard medley Relay, finishing in a time of 3:43.10. The team of Allen, Madar, Morris, and Brown were third in a time of 3:43.34.
Berus was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 1:49.70.
Deacon and Brown were second and third in the 50-yard freestyle finishing in 21.48 and 21.91 respectively. Deacon was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.81.
Madar and Butler were second and third respectively in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing in times of 2:18.83 and 2:20.95 respectively.
The Tigers wrapped up the meet with a second place finish in the 400-yard freestyle Relay. The team of Farrell, Brown, Brannan, and Deacon finished in a time of 3:16.95.
The Tigers are off until January 26 when they travel down East River Road to face the University of Rochester at 1 p.m.
