ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team (6-7-2) concludes its seven-game road trip with a pair of non-conference games at The Ohio State Buckeyes (12-5-1) on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's contest begins at 7 p.m., while Sunday's contest begins at 2 p.m.
RIT, currently 2-3 on its road swing, will look to snap a three-game losing streak after dropping a pair of contests at No. 8 North Dakota last weekend, falling 3-2 on Friday and 8-2 on Saturday. On Friday, #
Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# tallied a goal and an assist, while Kourtney Kuncihika also scored. #
Laura Chamberlain (Norco, CA/LA Selects)# was excellent in goal, stopping 25 shots. On Saturday, the Tigers gave up four goals in each of the first and third periods, surrendering four power-play goals. #
Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)# and Schlattman scored in defeat for RIT, who allowed a team-record 58 shots on goal, including a program-record 26 in the first period.
Schlattman is now just one point shy from becoming the ninth player in the history of the program to record 100 career points. She leads the Tigers with eight goals this season and has 33 goals and 66 assists in 102 career games. #
Danielle Read (Brantford, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# will play in her 100th career game on Saturday at Ohio State, while Yokoyama is slated to do the same on Sunday.
Ohio State, who is receiving votes in the recent USCHO.com Division I Women's Ice Hockey poll, enjoyed a strong weekend, taking three out of four points on the road at WCHA rival Minnesota State. The two teams skated to a scoreless draw on Friday, while Ohio State earned a 4-3 win on Saturday. Ohio State is outscoring its opponents 59-43 this season and have received balanced scoring, as 10 players have at least 11 points. Paige Semenza and Taylor Kuehl both lead the team in scoring with 11 goals. Semenza has the team lead with 19 points, while Hokey Langan, Kari Schmitt, and Ally Tarr are tied for the lead on the squad with 13 assists. In net, Chelsea Knapp is 12-4-1 with a 2.17 goals against average and .925 save percentage.
This weekend's games will be the first meetings between the two schools.
