Men's swimming and diving wins final event to defeat Fredonia State

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT men's swimming and diving used a win from the 200-yard freestyle relay in the final event of the afternoon to rally for a 152-148 win over Fredonia State on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers won five single events and one relay, as their depth shined brightly in the win.

Down 144-139 heading into the final event, RIT received the decisive nine point win from the team of Ryan Brannan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena), Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda), Derek Brown (Canisteo, NY/Canisteo-Greenwood), and Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) in the 200-yard freestyle relay, winning by 37 one-hundredths of a second. The Tigers also finished third to grab two important points.

RIT received its first win of the day from Justin Morris (Marlborough, MA/Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School) in the 200-yard butterfly, as he won the event in a time of 2:06.91. Deacon then won the 50-free in 23.09 seconds.

Scott Farrell (Buffalo, NY/North Tonawanda) and Deacon were first and second in the 100-free. Farrell won in 50.95 seconds, while Deacon was right behind in 51.04.

Matt Berus (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) took the 500-free by 26 hundredths of a second in a time of 5:09.35, while Brannan won the 100-fly by 32 hundredths of a second in 54.69 seconds.

RIT also recorded 10 second place and 10 third place finishes.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, as they host Alfred University at Judson Pool. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
