Volleyball wraps up 2012 regular season with two wins at New York State Regional Challenge; Worth and SUllivan named to All-Tournament Team

NEW YORK, NY - The RIT volleyball team (26-14) closed out the 2012 regular season with two wins on Saturday at the New York State Regional Challenge, hosted by New York University. The Tigers opened the day by defeating Hunter College (19-10) in four sets. RIT wrapped up the regular season by defeating former Empire 8 rival Stevens Institute of Technology (16-17) in three sets. Seniors Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) and Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Against Hunter, RIT rolled to wins in the first two sets, 25-18, 25-15, before Hunter won the third set, 30-28. RIT rebounded to take the fourth set in decisive fashion, 25-14.

RIT hit .254 as a team, including .412 in set two and .500 in the final set.

Freshman Arielle Pariente (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) slammed a season-high 11 kills, while hitting .455. Sullivan hit .733 with 12 kills in just 15 attempts to go along with five assisted blocks. She now has 100 assisted blocks in 2012.

Senior Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) recorded 15 digs, 14 kills, and three service aces. Worth dished out 45 assists, while Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) recorded 16 digs. Amanda White (Watertown, NY/Watertown) had five kills and four blocks.

For Hunter, Brianna O'Hagan and Lucia Stosic both had 10 kills. Mia De Carlo recorded 31 assists and 11 digs

RIT rolled to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 over the Ducks. Cooper continued her excellent play, slamming 12 kills, while hitting .367 to go along with nine digs. Sullivan had eight kills and five assisted blocks, while White recorded 10 kills and four assisted blocks. Freshman Taylor Harkness (Batavia, NY/Batavia) led the squad with 10 digs to go along with four assisted blocks and four kills, while Davis added nine digs.

Maggie Kowalska led the Ducks with 13 kills and 12 digs.

Last night, the Tigers rolled to a three-set win over Brooklyn and lost to Elmira in four sets.

RIT's 26 wins are the most since 2007, when the squad finished 31-11 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers are the No. 4 seed in the 2012 Liberty League Championship Tournament and will travel to face top-seed Skidmore in the first semifinal on Friday, Nov. 2. If RIT wins, they will play the winner of No. 2 seed Clarkson and third-seeded Vassar on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4 p.m.
