CANTON, NY -
The RIT volleyball team opened the 2011 season with a convincing 25-9, 25-8, 25-9 win over Cazenovia at the North Country Classic hosted by St. Lawrence on Friday afternoon.  The Tigers then fell to SUNY Potsdam, 20-25, 17-25, 21-25 in the nightcap.

RIT hit a robust .522 vs. Cazenovia.  Junior captain Suzanne Jokajtys (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) led the way with a career-best 12 kills to go along with seven digs.  She hit a career-best .579 in the match.  Classmate Brianne Yannotta (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) also slammed a career-best 10 kills, while hitting a robust .643 to go along with five service aces.  Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) and Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) both added five kills.

Junior setter Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 22 assists and added three kills, while freshman Elise Walsh added 11 assists.

Against Potsdam, Moore led the way with 11 kills.  Worth and Audrey DiPoala (Victor, NY/Victor) added eight digs apiece.  Jokajtys slammed seven kills.  Potsdam had 17 service aces in the three games.

RIT wraps up action at the North Country Classic on Saturday, as they play Baruch at 1 p.m. and St. Michael's at 3 p.m.
