ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team finished its Spring trip to Winter Haven, Fla. with a 1-7 mark.  Several players had strong weeks, including senior Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia), who stole six bases to break the all-time career record in that category.

Smith now has 48 stolen bases, breaking the record of 44, held by Matt George (Walton, NY/Walton), who played at RIT from 2005-08.  Smith hit .361 with a team-best 13 hits in 36 at-bats.

Junior Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) led the squad with a .500 batting average (12-for-24), while freshmen Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols), and Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), hit .450 and .435, respectively, both driving in six runs.  Senior Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) drove in a team-high seven runs.  Jon Meyer (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) hit four doubles.

RIT pounded 23 hits, one shy of a program record, in its lone win of the trip, 15-12 over St. Vincent.  Roman was 4-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a double.  He also picked up the win on the mound, allowing three runs in five innings.  Kernan was 3-for-3 with four RBI, while Meyer was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, two doubles, and a run batted in.  Canestro had two hits and earned the save on the mound.  Smith added three hits and stole a base.

Canestro was 4-for-4 in a 17-10 loss to Wartburg on March 4.

Senior pitcher Mike Marsillo (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) allowed just one earned run in a complete game loss to Rose-Hulman on March 5.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 19, as they host Medaille in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Field of Dreams Park in Webster, N.Y.
