Baseball picks up doubleheader sweep over Medaille

The RIT baseball team (3-7) picked up a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, defeating Medaille, 5-1 and 6-4 at Field of Dreams turf park in Webster.  RIT never trailed in either contest and picked up its first two wins in its first games since the Spring trip to Florida.

In game one, senior hurler Mike Marsillo (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) was excellent, scattering seven hits to earn the complete game win.  He walked just one batter and struck out five to pick up his first win of the season. 

RIT scored a run in each of the first three innings, and put the game away with two in the sixth.  Jon Meyer (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.  Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) also recorded two hits, while Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) scored a pair of runs.  Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) slammed a run scoring triple.

In game two, the Tigers scored three runs in the first and two n the second to jump out to a 5-0 lead, before Medaille cane back to cut the lead to 5-4 in the sixth.

Meyer was 4 for 4 with a double, two runs scored, and two runs batted in.  Nick Ventura (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) was 3 for 3 with a triple and run scored, while Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor), Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia), and Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) recorded two hits and a stolen base apiece.

On the mound, Frank DiPinto (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) picked up the win, throwing 5 2/3 innings, aloowing seven hits and four runs.  Charles Yarrington (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) relieved DiPinto and pitched a perfect 1 1/3 innings to earn the save.

RIT is right back in action on Sunday, as Brockport comes to Field of Dreams park for a single game at 1 p.m.
