CANTON, NY -- The RIT men's swimming and diving team improved to 3-0 in dual meets this season with a 167-75 win over St. Lawrence in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon.
RIT opened the meet in fine fashion, sweeping the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Kyle Wilson (Buffalo, NY/Canisius),
Peter Coutts (Statsburg, NY/F.D. Roosevelt High School),
Ryan Brannan (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and
Cory Deacon (Scottsville, NY/Wheatland-Chili) came home first in a time of 1:43.62. The team of
Nate Marshall (Waverly, NY/Waverly),
Julius Jeong (Salisbury, MD/Wicomico),
Cory Spado (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and
Van Hopson (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) were second in a time of 1:45.72.
Brannan was also a winner in two individual events. The sophomore won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.99, and the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:11.28.
Kevin Christiansen (Penfield, NY/Penfield) was a multiple winner for RIT, winning the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:50.15, and the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.27.
Joe Meiman (Milford, NH/Milford) also won the 200-yard breastroke in a time of 2:27.74.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Tigers swept the top two positions. Finishing first was the team of Hopson, Marshall,
Austin Lopez (Parma, OH/Normandy) and
Wade Piotrowski (Webster, NY/Webster Schroder) in a time of 3:33.78. In second was the team of
Alex Branch (Rochester, NY/Pittsford-Sutherland), Wilson,
Kevin Leggett (Baltimore, MD/Mcdonogh) and
Zach Niziolek (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam) finishing in a time of 3:45.19.
RIT dominated both diving events, sweeping the top three spots in both boards. In the one-meter event
John Tellgren (Anoka, MN/Anoka) was first with a score of 233.60.
JJ Bero IV (Canandaigua, NY/Marcus Whitman) was second with a score of 195.65, while
Tim Ruth (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) was third with a score of 187.35. In the three-meter event Tellgren was first (247.00), Ruth was second (201.65) and Bero IV was third (191.05).
The Tigers are off until Dec. 2 when they will compete at the Liberty League Championships.
