Volleyball extends winning streak to three matches with win over SUNY Geneseo

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (10-12) continued its strong play, defeating SUNY Geneseo in four sets at Clark Gym on Wednesday evening.  RIT won the first two sets, 25-20, and 27-25, before losing the third, 25-17.  RIT rebounded to win the fourth and decisive set 25-17.

With the second set tied at 25, Kyra Wilson-Houck (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) slammed a kill to give the Tigers the slim lead.  On the ensuing point, Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) combined on the block to win the set.

After Geneseo romped to the third set win, the Tigers found themsleves down 8-4 in the fourth set.  Strong serving by Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) allowed the Tigers to score the next seven points, go up 11-8, and seize the momentum they needed.  Geneseo would not to within closer than three points the rest of the set.

Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) led the Tigers offensively with 13 kills and four blocks.  Katie Cooper (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) slammed 12 kills and added 10 digs.  Wilson-Houck finished with nine kills.  Parish hit .545 with six blocks, eight digs, and three blocks.

Defensively, Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) recorded a career-best 26 digs, while Audrey DiPoala (Victor, NY/Victor) chipped in with 14, and Lauren Kraft (Lockport, NY/Holy Angels Academy) added seven.  Setter Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) recorded 34 assists, eight digs, four kills, and three blocks.

For the Knights, Kat Strickland led the way with 17 kills.  Setter Noelle Morrison dished out 49 assists.  Libero Laura Galvin recorded 28 digs, while Julia Gangloff added 17 digs and three service aces.  Sarah Dewey slammed 10 kills.

The Tigers return to action on Friday and Saturday, as they travel to the UMass Boston Tournament.  RIT plays the hosts on Friday at 6 p.m., then plays Coast Guard Academy on Saturday at 11 a.m. and faces Western Connecticut at 1:30 p.m.
