ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT volleyball team (12-5) had its six-match winning streak snapped by SUNY Cortland (17-4) in four sets in a non-league contest at Clark Gym on Wednesday evening. Cortland won the first set 25-21, before RIT took set two, 25-19. The Red Dragons won a tight third set, 25-23, before drawing away to win the final set, 25-15.
RIT trailed 6-0 in the third set before coming all the way back to take a 22-20 lead. Cortland responded by tallying five of the next six points to win the set and turn the match in its favor.
Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) led RIT with 17 kills.
Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA/Rancho Bernardo) added nine kills and hit .421.
Cat Sullivan (Lehman, PA/Lake-Lehman) hit .400 with six kills and added four blocks.
Christina Worth (Valencia, CA/Valencia) dished out 39 assists and tallied four blocks.
Kristin Parish (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) also had four blocks.
Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) recorded a team-best 21 digs.
Kyra Wilson-Houck (Painted Post, NY/Corning West) slammed four service aces.
Ashley Coyle led the Red Dragons with 19 kills and 16 digs. Sheena Asibey slammed 14 kills, while Kaitlyn Cooper added 12 kills. Katie Wick recorded 15 digs, while Kristen Guercio dished out 53 assists.
The Red Dragons have now won eight of their last nine matches. They lead the all-time series between the two schools, 35-22.
The Tigers return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Oneonta State Invitational. The Tigers play Oneonta at 4 p.m. and Hartwick at 8 p.m. on Friday.
