ITHACA, NY - The RIT baseball team (17-19, 6-10 Empire 8) concluded Empire 8 play by splitting a doubleheader at Ithaca (19-17, 11-5 Empire 8) on a cold, and windy Sunday afternoon. RIT took game one by a score of 8-2, while Ithaca won the nightcap, 10-1.
Senior pitcher
Cory Langtry (Moravia, NY/Moravia) pitched his best game of the season, going the distance to allow just six and two runs with five strikeouts. It was Langtry's second win of the season.
The Tigers scored three times in the third inning, twice in the fourth, and three more times in the sixth inning for the win.
Junior second baseman
Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a stolen base, and run batted in. Senior outfielder
Ryan Campbell (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was also 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Josh Rodems (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and
Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) scored a pair of runs each. Rodems was hit by a pitch on two separate occasions.
RIT's win in game one allowed St. John Fisher to capture the 2010 Empire 8 Championship.
In game two, Ithaca jumped on Tiger starter
MIke Marsillo (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) early on, scoring four times in the first inning and five in the fifth frame to blow the game open.
Offensively, RIT could muster just three hits of Ithaca starter Andrew Wall. Wall went the distance, striking out 13 Tigers.
Jeffrey Creagh (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks) was 2-for-3 with a run batted in for RIT. Campbell was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Senior outfielder
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) became RIT's all-time leader in walks, drawing his 70th. He leads the squad with 26 free passes this season.
The Tigers travel to play the University of Rochester in a single, nine-inning game on Tuesday that gets underway at 4 p.m.
