ITHACA, NY - The RIT baseball team (16-18, 5-9 Empire 8) dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Ithaca (18-16, 10-4 Empire 8) on a cool and windy Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fell in game one, 5-4, and dropped game two, 6-4.
In game one, RIT held leads of 2-0 and 3-2 before Ithaca scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good. RIT rallied with a run in the top of the seventh inning, but it was not enough.
Ithaca pitchers hit six Tiger batters in game one.
Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) was hit three times, setting a single-game record.
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) was 2-for-3 with a double, and two RBI.
Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse),
Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), and
Josh Rodems (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) each had a hit and run batted in.
Dornes took the loss in game one, throwing a complete-game. He allowed nine hits and five runs.
In game two, RIT led 1-0 after the top of first inning, but Ithaca scored three times in the bottom of the frame to go up 3-1.
Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) was 2-for-4 with a triple and run scored.
Ryan Campbell (Brockport, NY/Brockport) was 2-for-4 with a run batted in.
Hughes set the single-season record for assists in a season with 102.
The two teams conclude the weekend on Sunday with a double that gets underway at 12 p.m.
