Baseball suffers home loss to University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team (12-10) dropped a non-conference game to the University of Rochester (19-4), 14-4 at RIT Field on Tuesday afternoon. Rochester tallied 19 hits in the game, including 17 singles.

The Yellowjackets stole 11 bases in the win, and broke the game open with five runs on just three hits in the top of the second inning.

Dominick Caruso was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in. Matt Francis was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Steve Just was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Nate Stein drove in two runs apiece for the Yellowjackets. Bryan Bezek was 3-for-4. Alex Caghan stole five of Rochester's 11 bases and scored four times.

Ned Chantry allowed two runs in five innings to record the win. Phil DeLorenzo pitched the final four innings to record the save.

RIT scored a run in the second, third, and seventh innings. Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) was 3-for-4. #Kreag Bradley was 1-for-2 with two walks, a run scored, run batted in, and stolen base. Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Ryan Campbell (Brockport, NY/Brockport) also drove in runs for the Tigers.

Joel Walker (Morrisville, VT/Peoples Academy) took the loss for RIT. Charles Yarrington (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) was solid in relief, allowing four runs in 5 1/3 innings. Frank DiPinto (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

RIT is right back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to face SUNY Brockport in a single nine-inning game that gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
