Baseball extends winning streak to six games with pair of wins over Medaille

The RIT baseball team (8-5) extended its winning streak to six games on Monday, sweeping a doubleheader from Medaille College (8-6), 9-3 and 7-2 at Field of Dreams Stadium on Aa cool and wet Monday afternoon.  RIT has out-scored foes 57-17 during the six-game streak.

In game one, RIT scored three runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings to build a 9-0 lead.

Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) continued his red-hot streak, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a pair of walks.  He built his streak to 12-for-14 over his previous four contests.  Ed Hughes (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) also ripped a pair of hits, while Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) and Chris Brol (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) drove in a pair of runs.

Mike Marsillo (Scottsdale, AZ/Desert Mountain) threw six solid innings, scattering nine hits and allowing zero earned runs, while striking out six batters.  Frank DiPinto (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) threw a scoreless seventh inning in relief.

In game two, Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers) recorded his first career complete game, allowing just seven hits, while striking out three batters.  He allowed a pair of unearned runs.

Justin Smith (Livonia, NY/Livonia) was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and a pair of runs scored.  Hughes was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in.  Josh Rodems (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.

RIT opens up Empire 8 play on Friday and Saturday with a pair of doubleheaders against St. John Fisher.  Friday and Saturday.  Both days contests begin at 1 p.m.
