PITTSFORD, NY -- The RIT (14-19, 8-6 E8) baseball team swept a pair of games from St. John Fisher (16-14, 5-7 E8) College in Empire 8 action on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers took game one 8-4 and won game two 8-5. Senior
Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) had three RBI, breaking the career RBI record of 94 set by Jeff Hall who played from 1977-80.
The Tigers trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning of game one. RIT broke through with five runs in the sixth, sending 10 men to the plate and added two in the seventh for the win.
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) led off the sixth with a double to centerfield. Tosh followed with a single up the middle, driving in Dornes tying the score at 2-2.
With nobody out and two on
Josh Rodems (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) (Orchard Park, NY) singled driving in Tosh giving RIT a 3-2 lead. Four batters later
Matt Austin (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY) ripped a triple into left center field, scoring two more runs as RIT scored five runs in the sixth.
RIT pounded out 14 hits in game one led by
Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) and
Dave Kernan (North Syracuse, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) who each had three. Dornes and Tosh each had two hits.
Kreag Bradley (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY) drove in three runs and Austin drove in two.
Chris Miller (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) (Rochester, NY/Rush Henrietta) picked up his first win of the season. He went six innings allowing two earned runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked two.
In game two the Tigers broke open a tight game with four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to win 8-5.
Matt Austin (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) continued his hot hitting, going 3-4 with a RBI and three runs scored. Tosh went 2-4 with two more RBI, bringing his career total to 97. He is three RBI away from becoming the first Tiger to drive 100 career runs.
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) went 2-3 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Ben Robertson (Mecklenburg, NY/Trumansburg) went 2-4 with a RBI and a run scored and
Kyle Desrosiers (North Attleboro, MA/Xaverian Brothers) went 2-4 with a run scored.
Cory Langtry (Moravia, NY/Moravia) (Moravia, NY) went the distance picking up the win. He went seven innings allowing three earned runs, striking out five and walking three.
The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon in Pittsford, New York. First pitch is at 1 pm.
